PureProtect Provides Rising Damp Solutions in Canberra

At PureProtect we are proud to deliver proven rising damp solutions to residential and commercial customers in the Canberra area including Wollongong, Nowra & Southern Highlands.

Rising damp or “salt-damp” occurs on the bases of walls. It moves upwards vertically because the damp proof course that all houses are fitted with is has failed or has been ‘bridged’ and is no longer preventing moisture from rising.

With more than 20 years building experience, our technician team can provide the correct assessment of the damp problem and provide the most effective solutions.

What is rising damp?

Rising damp is caused by moisture containing natural formed salts rising from the ground through capillary action. Salts and minerals in the ground are normally harmless, but when combined with water these salts dissolve and become acidic substances.

Rising Damp can be evident in the form of staining on internal walls, blistering and peeling paint and salt accumulation up to 1 metre high from the floor. If left untreated, Rising Damp can cause serious damage to a building’s structural integrity including damage to timber floors and floor joists, architraves and skirting boards.

How to repair Rising Damp

Accurately diagnosing the damp problem is important. In order to do this, a thorough inspection of the building is necessary. Correct diagnosis can prevent unnecessary expense. Our technicians will conduct a thorough inspection of the building including an assessment of all the visible evidence of damp available, will review the moisture content of surfaces in the building structure using digital moisture metres in order to correctly identify the source of the damp and to be able to advise and develop the correct solution.

There are a number of solutions available to repair Rising Damp including installing a new physical damp proof course and the chemical injection of rising damp solutions and creams. We provide our clients with a comprehensive assessment report including a complete scope of works and costs including details of the specifications for the recommended solution.
